allan H. Palecek
Allan H. Palecek, an accomplished designer, entrepreneur, conservationist and philanthropist, founded PALECEK in 1974 with his wife Nancy after serving as an Air Force pilot. Inspired by handcrafted natural elements and unusual weaving techniques, he identified a void in the market for distinctive rattan and wicker accessories and began importing baskets from Asia. With an eye on sustainability and the goal to create functional works of art from natural fibers, he developed a network of master artisans and began introducing home accents.
Today, the PALECEK name represents high-end design for furniture, accessories, wall décor, lighting and outdoor home furnishings. They are distributed internationally to retailers, design firms and the hospitality industry through eight lifestyle showrooms located across the country. To distinguish his brand, Mr. Palecek has long been a pioneer in experimenting with sustainable materials and developing water-based, environmentally friendly finishes. Strong partnerships with artisans and vendors have yielded a signature style that marries tradition with distinctly modern touches. PALECEK currently sources its handcrafted products from vendors in five countries in Southeast Asia and Mexico. Upholstery and finishing teams of local craftspeople at its headquarters in Richmond, Calif., provide rapid turnaround on custom orders. Ever a style leader, Mr. Palecek is known for the value he places on personal relationships with his customers, employees and vendors.
Mr. Palecek has a long history of helping others, both locally and internationally. The company has helped with relief efforts for many natural disasters, including distributing food and supplies, providing financial assistance, and helping to build schools and refugee centers. It supports dozens of charities, including Habitat for Humanity, the American Red Cross, Build the Cure Dream House, Samaritan’s Purse, New York Lower East Side Settlement and the Bay Area Rescue Mission. An active supporter of the industry, Mr. Palecek serves on the Board of the American Home Furnishings Alliance and has received the ARTS Lifetime Achievement Award as well as numerous Pinnacle and ARTS Awards for product design.
